The neurorehabilitation programs at Saint Luke’s Marion Bloch Neuroscience Institute are designed to help patients return to the highest level of function following stroke, surgery, brain or spinal cord injury, or other debilitating conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), or cancer.

Our team of experts includes physiatrists (physicians board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation); other physician specialists; certified rehabilitation nurses; wound care nurses; and physical, occupational, and speech therapists. The team helps manage patient recovery through a personalized treatment plan designed around our continuum of services, including:

Inpatient Neurorehabilitation

Our physical medicine physicians examine hospitalized patients 6 days a week and are on-call 24/7. And patients begin therapy 24 to 36 hours after experiencing neurological trauma – often while they're still in the ICU. Evidence shows this early intervention sets the stage for the best outcomes. Saint Luke’s consistently ranks above the national average for discharging patients directly home rather than them having to go to another facility for additional rehab. Patients can visit our inpatient unit at Saint Luke’s North Hospital–Smithville.

Saint Luke's Rehabilitation Institute

The experts at Saint Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute, located on the Saint Luke's South Hospital campus, assist patients along the road to recovery in the only comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation hospital of its kind in the Kansas City region—all while keeping them close to their homes and families.

Outpatient Neurorehabilitation Clinic

Our physical, occupational, and speech therapists provide specialized rehabilitation for neurology and neurosurgery patients through our Outpatient Neurorehabilitation Clinic. The team has advanced training, certification, and experience caring for stroke and surgery patients – and has all the advanced equipment needed to help patients regain function and independence.

Caregiver Training Program

Following a patient’s return home, caregivers are key to a patient’s continued recovery. That’s why we offer our Caregiver Training Program. Before discharge, our team ensures that caregivers are properly trained to provide assistance a patient might need. This includes educating caregivers about proper techniques and assistive devices, potential household hazards, and additional resources.

Stroke Support Group

Our free Stroke Support Groups meet monthly at Saint Luke's Hospital and Saint Luke's East Hospital to hear from guest speakers. Meetings also include open discussion among stroke survivors and caregivers. Register by calling Saint Luke’s Concierge at 816-932-5100.
