Congratulations to two Saint Luke’s hospitals for receiving 2018 awards from Vizient in recognition of their performance. Saint Luke’s South Hospital received a 2018 Vizient Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Award, recognizing it as a top performing community hospital that has demonstrated superior performance in quality and safety. Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City received a 2018 Vizient Rising Star Award, recognizing the hospital as a top performer in achieving significant year-over-year improvements.

Vizient Inc. is the largest member-driven health care performance improvement company in the country. It announced the winners of its 2018 awards Oct. 4 during the 2018 Vizient Connections Summit in Las Vegas. The awards are based on results of the 2018 Vizient Quality and Accountability Study, which looked at performance measures of 99 academic medical centers, 100 complex teaching medical centers, and 93 community hospitals.

The study takes into consideration a hospital’s performance in the Institute of Medicine’s six domains of care:

  • Safety
  • Timeliness
  • Effectiveness
  • Efficiency
  • Patient centeredness
  • Equity of care

It looks at data including the Vizient Clinical Data Base, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Core Measures, the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN).
