FOX4: Saint Luke’s Hospital offers new minimally invasive trial for Peripheral Artery Disease

Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) is a disease that impacts 3 million Americans every year. PAD is a circulatory condition where calcified plaque builds up in the arteries in the legs, which causes pain and a new clinical trial can help provide some relief. Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City is one of only nine clinical trial sites across the country able to perform this new minimally invasive procedure, called the Shockwave Clinical Trial.

“By opening these arteries and keeping them open, patients are able to walk in a more unrestricted fashion and not have to stop, so it’s a great improvement in their lifestyle,” said Dr. Steven Laster, the director of interventional cardiology at Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City.

Watch one man's story, on FOX4, about how the Shockwave Clinical Trial helped him be able to walk two miles without taking a break to sit down and recover from leg pain.

This less-invasive procedure means more people who suffer from the illness may qualify for treatment. If you are interested in learning more, please call 816-751-8405.
