Media Coverage: Bourbon Co. Sheriff gives Life-Saving Award to Saint Luke's Hospital and others after stroke

A local sheriff gave a special award to all who stepped in and took quick action after he suffered a stroke.

Bourbon County Sheriff Bill Martin was going to a Chiefs game off-duty this past December when he fell walking into the stadium. His friends and some nearby officers recognized he was likely having a stroke and called 911. He was quickly transported to Saint Luke's Marion Bloch Neuroscience Institute where Dr. Jared Halpin quickly performed a thrombectomy to pull out the massive clot. You may have seen KMBC's story after it happened.

This week, Sheriff Martin gave a Life-Saving award to the team at Saint Luke's Hospital of Kasnas City, along with the KCPD officers, KCFD paramedics, and his friends who all played a crucial role in his great outcome.

"I would like to recognize the men and women in the hospital that turned the worst situation for me into the best it could possibly be and took part in saving my life," Sheriff Martin said.
