Fireworks are a fun way to celebrate the Fourth of July, but there are dangers as well that can lead to a patient losing fingers and doing physical therapy.

Dr. Tom McEwan, a plastic surgeon with Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City, said injuries he sees from fireworks range from simple burns to major explosions.

"When we see those types of injuries, a lot of times it's just damage control, saving what you can," Dr. McEwan said, "and it often leads to amputation of multiple fingers or the hand itself."
