KMBC: Leavenworth Mother's Story Highlights the Perils Women's Hearts Face in Pregnancy

A local woman survived three heart attacks, one of which while pregnant.

Whitney Matzeder was 14 weeks pregnant when she started having a dull pain in her chest. She went to Saint Luke's, where a team of cardiologists and obstetricians worked together to treat both her and her baby.

KMBC talked to Dr. Laura Schmidt, a cardiologist with the Heart Conditions in Pregnancy Program through Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute, about the impact pregnancy has on a woman's heart and Saint Luke's unique approach to treating these patients.
