TRENTON, Mo. — This spring, Wright Memorial Hospital is offering a one-day  Safe Sitter® class, designed to give 11 to 13-year-olds the necessary and life-saving skills needed to care for younger children.

Led by Tina Capeder, director of Customer & Facility Services at Wright Memorial Hospital, the Safe Sitter class will take place on Saturday, May 30, and will teach the students basic first aid, personal safety for the babysitter, injury prevention, feeding and diapering infants, behavior management and problem behavior prevention, ethics, babysitting as a business, and CPR.

“Leaving your young children in the care of a babysitter or an older sibling can often be a stressful experience. You just never know what may happen when you’re not there,” Capeder said. “But when that babysitter is a Safe Sitter graduate, you can be reassured knowing they are trained with both the most basic babysitting abilities and the life-saving skills needed if something goes wrong.”

Each year, more than 35,000 students complete the course in hundreds of cities across the country, and there are more than 150 documented cases where a Safe Sitter graduate helped save someone’s life. Wright Memorial Hospital is one of 850 registered Safe Sitter teaching locations in the United States.

The cost of the class is $40 per student and covers a comprehensive curriculum, including essential infant/child CPR instruction. The class will be held at Wright Memorial Hospital, 191 Iowa Blvd, Trenton, Mo. Participants are asked to register by May 15 to ensure an adequate supply of course materials.
