Saint Luke’s Health System ranks in top 10 in the nation in patient satisfaction

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As a health system, Saint Luke’s ranks among the top 10  in the nation in patients’ perspectives in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey of patients’ hospital experiences.

Data recently provided by HealthStream, the system’s patient satisfaction consultant, show that Saint Luke’s Health System ranks ninth in the nation among large health systems with five or more hospitals. In the previous quarter, Saint Luke’s Health System ranked 12th in the nation.

Health systems in the top tier nationally included Baylor and Mayo Clinic health systems, among others. Historically, Saint Luke’s individual hospitals have repeatedly topped all other metropolitan area hospitals in HCAHPS rankings. This is the first year that data comparing health systems across the nation have been available from HealthStream.

“It’s very exciting and gratifying to see Saint Luke’s move into a top-10 position nationally,” said Saint Luke’s Health System President and CEO Melinda Estes, M.D., MBA. “It’s a major achievement and a direct reflection of the incredible dedication by our nurses, physicians, and staff to strive for the highest level of patient satisfaction every day across all entities in our health system.”

The ranking aggregates scores across multiple aspects of care for all the hospitals in Saint Luke’s Health System. The 32-question survey queried patients about perceptions of their hospital experiences. The report provides a national, standardized look at key aspects of patient care, including communication with staff, pain and medication management, discharge information, cleanliness and quietness of hospital environment, overall rating of hospital, and willingness to recommend the hospital.
