Healthline: Hot Flashes Are More Than Annoying — They Could Signal Heart Disease

For years, the conventional wisdom was that hot flashes, or what doctors call vasomotor symptoms, were a rather benign signal that a woman was about to enter midlife. Now, a new study out of the University of Pittsburgh says not so fast.

Frequent or persistent hot flashes could be a sign that you’re at higher risk for a heart attack or stroke.

Dr. Tracy Stevens, medical director of Saint Luke's Muriel I. Kauffman Women's Heart Center and cardiologist at Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute, spoke with Healthline about how reach was done in the past and how women should take ownership of their own health.
