About 107,000 people are on the national transplant waiting list at any given time. Seventeen people die each day waiting for an organ transplant, and every nine minutes, a new person is added to the waiting list, according to the Organ Procurement and Transplant Network.

This week, during Donate Life Month, we’re talking to Dr. Lee Cummings, transplant surgeon and surgical director of the kidney transplant program at Saint Luke’s Health System, about the importance of organ donation, living donors, and dispelling common myths.
