Health officials across the Kansas City area are seeing a rise in the number of flu cases. 

The U.S. is experiencing the earliest flu season in 15 years, and the Kansas City, Missouri, Health Department warns that this year's strain of the virus looks different than it has in the past.

FOX4 talked to Dr. Ryan Gallagher, an emergency medicine physician at Saint Luke's, about how to protect yourself from the flu and how to recognize when you should go to the hospital.
