Specialty Pharmacy APPE

This Specialty Pharmacy rotation will provide students exposure and opportunity to participate in the essential roles of a clinical specialty pharmacist and other staff within the department, through the activities outlined below. Topic discussions, projects, and presentations will be required as directed by the preceptor.

The goal of the rotation is for the student to become familiar with the specialty pharmacy industry, obtain experience in working in both operational and clinical roles, and gain valuable specialty and drug information knowledge.

Rotation Goals

  1. Be able to clearly define specialty pharmacy and key operations related to such
  2. Be able to input, process, and “dispense” a specialty medication
  3. Be able to communicate with and counsel patients on new or existing Specialty medications
  4. Complete up to four topic discussions and one Journal Club on articles read
  5. Initiate and complete large and small projects as assigned, to be completed by the end of the month
  6. Act, communicate, and always remain professional
