Container Type:
Viral, Chlamydia or Mycoplasma culture transport provided by Labcorp, or other appropriate transport medium(M4 media and M6 media are ok, M4RT media is NOT ok).
Specimen Type:

Endocervical exudates or scrapings, urethral exudate, urine, endometrial washing or biopsy, fallopian tube, placenta, fetal part, semen, CSF, respiratory sources from neonates

Collection Procedure:

Females and Males: Collect a vaginal or urethral specimen using an appropriately sized synthetic swab. Place swab in viral transport media (VTM). Refrigerate and ship to the laboratory at 2-8°C.

Semen/Urine/Biopsy/Tissue/CSF: Collect specimen in a sterile, leakproof container. Refrigerate and ship to the laboratory at 2-8°C.

Causes for Rejection:

Bacterial swab specimen; specimen received in grossly leaking transport container; dry specimen; specimen submitted in fixative or additive; specimen received in expired transport media or incorrect transport device; inappropriate specimen transport conditions; specimen received after prolonged delay in transport (usually >72 hours); specimen stored or transported at room temperature; wooden shaft swab in transport device.
