Information concerning dosage, dosage schedule, other antimicrobials given concurrently, and date and time of draw are required on the request form for processing.

Collection Procedure:

1. A peak specimen is usually drawn 30 to 60 minutes after completion of an infusion of an intravenous dose or 60 minutes after an intramuscular or oral dose.
2. Separate the serum or plasma from the cells within 2 hours of collection.
3. If testing is delayed more than 2 hours from the time of specimen collection,     then the serum or plasma needs to be frozen until tested.
4. Indicate serum or plasma on the request form.
5. Label the specimen appropriately (serum or plasma).
