Collection Procedure:
  • 1.  Collect blood in a pre-chilled or pre-frozen plastic lavender top (EDTA) tube, noting the time of collection.
    2.  After venipuncture, immediately mix the specimen by inversion several times to insure complete mixture.
  • 4. Keep specimen on ice for delivery to lab.
    3.  Separate the plasma from the cells by centrifugation, place the plasma into a plastic screw cap vial and freeze within 15 minutes of collection.
    4.  Plasma with Aprotinin (Trasylol®) is acceptable, but not required.
    5.  To avoid delays in turn around time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, submit separate frozen samples for each test requested.

Room temperature - 4 hours

Unacceptable Condition:

Specimens received at the testing laboratory at room temperature will be rejected.
