1.  The specimen is best obtained as soon as possible after the patient arises and prior to defecation or bathing.
2.  Label the slide with the patient's full name, date of birth, and date and time of collection.
3.  Separate the buttocks and press the sticky side of the cellophane tape (do not use frosted tape) against areas of the perianal region.
4.  Place the tape on a clear glass slide.
5.  Send the slide in a plastic slide container labeled with the patient's full name, date of birth, date and time of collection, initials of the person collecting the specimen and the specimen source.
6.  Note:  The specimen source is required on the request form for processing

Stool specimens are not satisfactory for pinworm studies.
