LIPOMET

Lipoprotein Metabolism Profile

EPIC Test Procedure Code: LAB3782

Performing Lab:
Referral Laboratory
Required Patient Info:

Patient should be fasting for 12 to 14 hours prior to collection.

Container Type:
Plain red top tube or NMR LipoTube (black and yellow top tube)
Specimen Type:

Serum

Preferred Volume:
2 mL
Minimum Volume:
1 mL
Specimen Processing:

1. Gently invert the tube to mix the contents and allow the specimen to clot for 30 minutes before centrifugation.
2. Samples should be kept refrigerated and centrifuged within 24 hours of collection.
3. Centrifuge the specimen for 15 minutes at 3000 RPM.
4. Pipette the separated serum from the red top tube into a plastic transport tube.
5. If a NMR LipoTube is used, do not open the tube.
6. To preserve specimen integrity, centrifuged specimens can be kept refrigerated for 4 days before shipping and they must be shipped with frozen cool packs.

Store and Transport:
Refrigerated
Stability:

Frozen - unacceptable
Refrigerated - 6 days

Unacceptable Condition:

Causes for rejection: unspun LipoTube or unseparated plain red tob tube, gross hemolysis, serum more than 6 days old, specimen in an inappropriate container, frozen or room temperature specimen.

CPT Codes:
