Performing Lab:
Saint Luke's Regional Laboratories
Container Type:
See "Collection Procedure"
Specimen Type:

Blood, bone marrow, tissue or fluid

Preferred Volume:
See "Collection Procedure"
Collection Procedure:

Submit only one of the following specimens:

Blood
Container/Tube:  Green top (sodium heparin) tube
Specimen: 10 mL (minimum volume: 5 mL) of sodium heparin whole blood
Transport Temperature: Room temperature
Collection Instructions:  The specimen cannot be refrigerated or frozen.

Bone Marrow
Container/Tube:  Green top (sodium heparin) tube
Specimen: Place 2 mL (minimum volume: 1 mL) of bone marrow in a green top (sodium heparin) tube.
Transport Temperature: Forward promptly at room temperature only.
Collection Instructions:  The specimen cannot be refrigerated or frozen.

Fine Needle Aspirate
Container/Tube:  RPMI 1640 tissue transport medium
Specimen:  Place the tissue in a screw-capped container with RPMI 1640 tissue transport medium.
Transport Temperature:  Forward promptly at room temperature only.
Collection Instructions:  The specimen cannot be refrigerated or frozen.

Fluids
Specimen:  At least 10 mL of fluid.
The cell count must be >100/μL for optimal analysis.
Transport Temperature:  Forward promptly at room temperature only.
Collection Instructions:  The specimen cannot be refrigerated or frozen.

Tissue
Container Tube:  RPMI 1640 tissue transport medium
Specimen:  Intact tissue may be transported in a screw-capped container with RPMI 1640 tissue transport medium. Alternatively, wrap the tissue in saline dampened gauze and place in a Petri dish with wet toweling.
Transport Temperature:  Forward promptly at room temperature only.
Collection Instructions: The specimen cannot be refrigerated or frozen.

Store and Transport:
Room temperature only. Do not refrigerate or freeze.
