Alternate Specimens:
24 hour urine collected with 10g boric acid added at start of collection as a preservative

Collection Procedure:

24 Hour Urine Collection:
1. Instruct the patient to void at 8 a.m. and discard the specimen.
2. Collect all urine including the final specimen voided at the end of the 24 hour collection period in a plastic bottle.
3. Screw the lid on securely.
4. It is acceptable to collect cortisol with boric acid preservative.

Specimen Processing:

1. A 24 hour urine volume is required when ordering.
2. Enter the total volume in the EPIC prompt.

Ensure all aliquots/ pour offs are also documented with the total volume.

Refrigerated (from start of collection till received in ref lab)
