Collection Procedure:

1.  After patient has delivered stool specimen in a clean, dry pan or special container, place stool in a specimen cup and fasten the lid securely. Note: bloody, slimy or watery stools should be selected and sampled.
2. Write patient's name and demographics on the cup or apply a label and send the sample to the laboratory.

Store and Transport:
Store specimen at 2–8 °C (refrigerated)
Stability:

Up to 24 hours at room temperature (20–30 °C)
Up to 5 days at refrigerated temperature ( 2–8 °C)

Unacceptable Condition:

Specimens will be rejected if the following is received:

1. Formed stool
2. Stool submitted in transport media or swab
3. Rectal swab 
4. Stool received at room temperature (20 - 30 °C) > 24 hours old
5. Stool received refrigerated (2–8 °C) > 5 days old
