Guidelines for Donating Goods

Support Saint Luke's and our community by donating goods or physical gifts.

For Patients and Community

Thank you for your interest in supporting Saint Luke’s. Please review the following guidelines when making a non-cash donation. A non-cash donation may be a tangible item, good, or service that Saint Luke's would otherwise buy if the item hadn't been donated.

All donations must be coordinated with Saint Luke's foundation (or a designated health system representative). Donations of goods must be new and help address the needs of patients and staff.

Saint Luke's is not able to accept:

  1. Goods that have not been approved by Saint Luke's Foundation (or designated health system representative)
  2. Gently used items; only new goods can be accepted
  3. Gift-wrapped items
  4. Goods containing latex or toxins
  5. Goods that have been stored for a length of time

If you'd like to make a donation, please contact the Foundation at SLHF@saintlukeskc.org or 816-932-2252.

Tax-deduction

A non-cash donation may be a tangible item, good, or service that Saint Luke’s would otherwise buy if the item, good, or service hadn’t been donated. All in-kind gifts are facilitated through Saint Luke’s Foundation (or a designated health system representative).

These donations of real or personal property are tax-deductible by law.

Accepting gifts

When an employee within the health system is notified of a non-cash donation, the employee must notify the Foundation of the anticipated gift. If the acceptance of the donation is deemed appropriate, the employee must complete the donation form provided by the Foundation.

Receipt of donation

Approvals to accept a donation must take place prior to receiving the donation. Receipt of the gift is coordinated through the Foundation (or designated system representative) and may include additional personnel such as materials management, compliance, and legal when capital equipment or patient care is involved.
