Biography

 

Dr. Komal Desai’s specialty is ocular oncology. She is involved in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of intraocular tumors,  including retinoblastoma, melanoma, and conjunctival tumors. She has received the following degrees: Bachelor of Arts, Biology and Doctor of Medicine from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine six-year combined BA/MD program. She completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine. She subsequently did a clinical/research fellowship in ocular oncology at the University of California, San Francisco.
 
Over her career, Dr. Desai has earned her status as an esteemed lecturer delivering presentations at such respected venues as the Mayo Clinic Ophthalmology Grand Rounds and the University of California at San Francisco Monthly Research Forum.
 
Dr. Desai’s peer-review articles have been published in Ophthalmic Surgery and Lasers, Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and Archives of Ophthalmology.  She is actively involved in ongoing clinical research at the Eye Foundation of Kansas City and Department of Ophthalmology, University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine, where she is an Assistant Professor. She is also involved with clinical research at the University of California at San Francisco.
