KCTV: May is Stroke Awareness Month
According to the 2026 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics Update, someone has a stroke every 40 seconds in the U.S.
1 minute2 million brain cells die every minute during a stroke, increasing the risk of permanent brain damage, disability, or death. Karin Olds, MD, Stroke Medical Director at Saint Luke’s Marion Bloch Neuroscience Institute, says this makes early intervention critical.
This Stroke Awareness Month, Dr. Olds joins KCTV to discuss the different types of strokes, warning signs, and a new FDA-approved treatment for stroke survivors.
