1 minuteIn 2017, Bernadette Priestley was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. She was 37-years-old—and her two young children were just three and five years old.
When an oncologist in her home state of Wisconsin gave her a devastating prognosis, she turned to Dr. Timothy Pluard, medical director at Saint Luke’s Koontz Center for Advanced Breast Cancer in Kansas City, for a second opinion.
Today, after nearly 30 trips to the Koontz Center for treatment, Bernadette has no evidence of active disease. Bernadette and Dr. Pluard talked with KMBC about the importance of second opinions and advances in treatment that are allowing those with metastatic breast cancer to live longer.
