FOX 4: KC2026 Prepping for World Cup Heat Amid Extreme Heat Warning
Kansas City is one of six World Cup host cities next year that’s now considered “extremely high risk” for heat stress injuries to players, according to the Global Soccer Players Union, FIFPRO.
Dr. Staci Reintjes, emergency room physician at Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City, says that all athletes are at an increased risk for heat-related illness, especially those wearing extra gear and equipment.
FOX 4 talked with Dr. Reintjes about the warning signs of heat-related illness ahead of the historic matches that will kick off next June.
