PRESS RELEASE: Bishop Spencer Place to join Saint Luke's Health System

Saint Luke’s Health System of Kansas City announced today it has finalized an affiliation agreement with Bishop Spencer Place (BSP), one of Kansas City’s premier continuing care retirement communities.  Under the terms of the agreement, effective Dec. 19, Bishop Spencer Place, its employees, management, and board of directors will become part of Saint Luke’s Health System.
Bishop Spencer Place has offered upscale retirement living to the Kansas City community for more than 20 years, providing residents with both independent and assisted living as well as skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and private-duty care. The formal affiliation will allow Saint Luke’s to provide a seamless continuum of care to BSP residents as well as offering the potential for expanded services in the future.

“This agreement formalizes and enhances a long standing relationship between two organizations deeply committed to providing high quality care for Kansas City’s senior community,” said Saint Luke’s Health System President and CEO, Melinda L. Estes, M.D. “In addition to being a very natu-ral alignment between our two brands, this also will provide residents with increased access to ser-vices, greater efficiencies, and better coordination of care between physicians and BSP caregivers.”

Bishop Spencer Place is known for its high resident satisfaction levels and its Medicare 5-star rating for skilled nursing operation quality.  Saint Luke’s and BSP have worked closely for many years and share a common heritage as ministries of the Episcopal Diocese of West Missouri.

“We are excited about the opportunity to officially become part of Saint Luke’s Health System,” said Steve Seggerman, Bishop Spencer Place CEO. “We have worked together so closely for so many years I think many people assumed we were already affiliated. This formal agreement will allow BSP to continue to provide care to community residents in need with the full support of one of the region’s most trusted healthcare providers.”
