KMBC: Honoring health care workers on Easter Sunday during COVID-19

Coronavirus knows no holidays, and neither do the doctors, nurses and other health care workers on the front lines of the battle against COVID-19.

"They have their capes," said Saint Luke's East Hospital ICU manager Lynne Chestnut. "They put them on. They come to work. And they take care of really sick patients."

"Really it's just day-by-day heroics from the nursing staff," said pulmonary and critical care physician Dr. Amelia Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick said it's a scary time, but adds that nurses are reassuring for patients who may be at the hospital fighting COVID-19.

"It is scary, but our mission is to come to work every day to take care of patients," said respiratory therapist Alisha Hipsher. "And to take care of ourselves and treat our community."
