By renewing our driver’s license at the DMV, most of us are aware of the process of registering to become an organ donor should the worst come to pass. But there is another group of organ donors—living donors—who are helping relatives, friends, and even strangers by donating one of their kidneys. Living kidney donors can survive with the remaining kidney, allowing them to give the gift of life without sacrificing their own quality of life.

Each April, Volunteer Appreciation Week reminds us to pause and reflect on all the ways our hospital volunteers support our mission to serve our patients and communities.
Volunteers organized what is now the Allen County Regional Hospital Auxiliary in the early 1950s, not long after Allen County Hospital first opened its doors a few blocks east of Iola’s downtown.
