Golfers Swing at Cancer with Fore The Cure

Over the years, proceeds from the tournament have helped provide more than 1,100 uninsured patients with diagnostic services, such as mammograms.

More than a decade ago, several Staley Farms Women’s Golf Association members gathered to honor the lives of those affected by and lost to breast cancer.

The result: “Fore the Cure,” a charity golf tournament hosted at Staley Farms Golf Club benefiting Saint Luke’s North Breast & Imaging Center.

Over the years, proceeds from the tournament have helped provide more than 1,100 uninsured patients with diagnostic services, such as mammograms.

The tournament’s success has been driven by a team of 15 passionate volunteers who have either dealt with the disease personally or witnessed a loved one’s journey.

After a routine mammogram in 2013, Janet Herdman was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer.
Thankfully, she caught it very early. Janet now chairs the tournament’s committee.

"My life was saved with early detection,” Janet said.

This year’s Fore the Cure was Sept. 30. Hosted in partnership with the Staley Farms Golf Club, this tournament has raised $323,211 since 2012. 2022’s Fore the Cure had 144 participants.

Saint Luke’s is grateful for individuals like Janet and the entire tournament committee who host events that benefit the mission of Saint Luke's Health System.
