There is now new hope for people who have suffered life-altering injuries in the region.

Saint Luke's Rehabilitation Institute is opening on Sept. 4. The state-of-the-art facility will offer new and advanced therapies for people who have suffered traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, or strokes. The Rehabilitation Institute has 17 pieces of robotic technology to help patients recover, many of which are not available anywhere else in the region.

FOX4 talked to Susan Rushing, who came to Saint Luke's for her rehabilitation care after suffering two aneurysms and a stroke, losing most functionality on her left side and the ability to walk on her own.

"There are actual robotic machines that I'm able to attach my fingers to the controls and they're able to actually help maneuver my fingers and just get that sensation back," Rushing said.

Rushing now has full functionality in her left leg and is continuing her rehab several times a week to further improve her arm strength and balance.
