About Walter Schiffer, MD
Walter Schiffer, MD, is a fellowship-trained cardiologist with Saint Luke’s Cardiovascular Consultants. Dr. Schiffer is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and echocardiography. His clinical interests include cardiogenic shock, hemodynamic monitoring and invasive hemodynamics, mechanical circulatory support, and cardiotoxicity of cancer therapies. He specializes in radiation associated with heart disease, echocardiography, heart failure, post-cardiac arrest care, and AI and predictive analytics in the cardiac ICU.
Dr. Schiffer values strong relationships with his patients. He prioritizes honest, compassionate communication, especially during the most crucial moments of a cardiac illness. He is committed to making sure the patient and their family understand what is happening, what options are available, and what to expect next. He believes the best decisions are made together, and that even in critical illness, care must center on the entire person. When treating cardio-oncology patients, my goal is to protect the heart so that cancer treatment can proceed safely allowing patients to complete therapy and return to their normal lives.
When not caring for patients, Dr. Schiffer enjoys running, cycling, and playing jazz and funk bass guitar. He is also a devoted reader, film lover, and home espresso enthusiast.
