KSHB: Family Thanks Saint Luke's NICU for Lifesaving Care of the Premature Baby
Rafael Duarte was born prematurely at 22 weeks, weighing 1 lb. and 1oz. Rafael had a 3% chance of survival and had a complicated 2-month journey.
This boy, whose name means, ‘God heals,’ is now eight years old and thriving in the third grade. He and his mom, Cecilia, came back to the NICU to show thanks for what the doctors and nurses did to help save his life.
Mindy, Saint Luke's Hospital NICU nurse, talks about the Saint Luke's Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit's specialized ELGAN (Extremely Low Gestational Age Newborn) program, which she helped pioneer in 2017.
