Jani L. Johnson named CEO, Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City

Jani L. Johnson, RN, MSN, has been appointed CEO for Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City effective Monday, July 27. She replaces Julie Quirin, who has assumed a new position as Senior Vice President of Hospital Operations, with Saint Luke’s Health System (SLHS).

Johnson’s career with Saint Luke’s Health System began in 1985 as a staff nurse at Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute. She was promoted to various management and senior director positions, and in 2002 became vice president of the cardiovascular service line for Saint Luke’s Health System and the Heart Institute. In 2012, she was named President & CEO of Saint Luke’s South Hospital in Overland Park, KS.

"Jani has an extensive and impressive leadership history with the health system," said Julie Quirin, SLHS senior vice president of hospital operations. "Her many accomplishments include overseeing the rapid growth of Saint Luke’s South Hospital—including that facility becoming recognized as a US News & World Report Best Hospital—being named one of Becker’s Hospital Review’s ‘Women Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know’, and overseeing the successful launch of the new Mid America Heart Institute at Saint Luke’s Hospital in 2011."

Johnson holds nursing degrees from Methodist School of Nursing in Omaha, Neb., and a bachelor of science in nursing from Webster University. She earned a master’s in nursing from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Founded in 1882, Saint Luke’s Hospital is one of the region’s largest tertiary care hospitals with a history of award-winning care. As one of Kansas City’s leading research and academic medical institutions, it is a primary teaching hospital for the University of Missouri—Kansas City School of Medicine and Saint Luke’s College of Health Sciences.

A search is underway to find a new CEO for Saint Luke’s South Hospital. Until then, Julie Quirin will oversee its operations.
