Hedrick Medical Center and Chillicothe Fire Department join to fight cancer, help with breast cancer treatment costs

Hedrick Medical Center Emergency Department and the Chillicothe Fire Department are once again partnering together to help breast cancer patients pay for treatment. They will be collecting donations with a boot drive fundraiser during Chautauqua in the Park on September 10 and 11.

They will be posted at the intersections of Clay and Washington, and Park Lane and Washington, and will be easily identified by the pink t-shirts they will be wearing. These newly designed pink breast cancer awareness shirts will be available for $15 from Bev Shaul at Hedrick Medical Center (660-214-8305) or Betty Atwell at the Chillicothe Fire Department (660-646-2139). All proceeds from the boot drive and t-shirt sales will be used to help citizens in the Chillicothe and surrounding areas.

Last year almost $9,000 was raised and used to help patients in Livingston County who get treatment through the Oncology Nurse Navigator Program.

Additionally, Hedrick Emergency Department and the Fire Department are partnering with the City of Chillicothe to designate Friday, October 7 as Pink Out Day. Everyone in Chillicothe is encouraged to wear pink that day in support of the cause.

“This fundraiser has continued to be successful so we continue to make it bigger and better each year,” said Bev Shaul, manager of Emergency Services at Hedrick Medical Center. “We’re really trying to get the whole community involved to see how much more awareness and money we can raise for this terrific cause.”
