Amyloidosis is a disorder that occurs when a protein in the body misfolds and deposits into organs, leading to their dysfunction. Amyloidosis can affect several organ systems including the heart, kidneys, skin, soft tissue structures, and gastrointestinal tract.

An open, invasive aortic valve replacement is a surgery to replace a poorly working aortic valve with an artificial valve. The heart has 4 valves.

When adults lose bone density, a condition commonly referred to as osteopenia, it can be contributed to aging or complications from other medical conditions. In either case, it may be indicative of an increased risk of other associated low-bone density conditions, or even an increased vulnerability to fractures.
