About Thuan Nguyen, MD
Born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, Dr. Nguyen is a first-generation Vietnamese-American. His parents escaped from communist Vietnam in 1980 just a few years after the end of the Vietnam war. Fortunate enough to have the opportunity to start a new life in America after enduring the tragedies of a devastating war, his parents passed along the value of education, hard work, compassion for those less fortunate, and never taking anything for granted.
Brought up with these values, Dr. Nguyen earned his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Kansas in Lawrence and Kansas City. Dr. Nguyen developed a passion for Plastic Surgery during his surgical rotation in medical school where he saw the difference a Plastic Surgeon could make on patients' lives after cancer resection and traumatic injuries. He completed his Plastic Surgery training at the University of Missouri-Columbia's competitive integrated plastic surgery residency. He then went to obtain additional fellowship training in Hand and Microsurgery at the highly regarded Buncke Clinic in San Francisco, California.
Enjoying the diversity of a well-rounded plastic surgery practice, Dr. Nguyen has particular interest in cosmetic, hand, and reconstructive surgery. He stays current with the latest advances in plastic surgery, and has a surgical philosophy that stresses individualizing each patient's unique assessment and needs. Combining this with patient education, Dr. Nguyen believes in empowering his patients to make decisions that will add value to their lives and lead to an optimal outcome.
Having conducted research on a variety of topics in plastic surgery, Dr. Nguyen has authored over ten peer-reviewed articles, and has presented his research at national meetings. He also enjoys serving the underprivileged, having just recently traveled to Nepal for a medical mission trip where he had the opportunity to treat patients suffering from severe burn and traumatic limb threatening injuries.
Dr. Nguyen is excited to return to and serve the Kansas City area, where he lives with his family. Outside of surgery, he enjoys reading, film, travel, fitness, being an avid local sports fan, and spending time with his wife, newborn son and three dogs.

Reviews & Ratings
Recent Patient Reviews
The Patient Satisfaction Rating is an average of all responses to the care provider related questions shown below from our survey. Patients that are treated in outpatient or hospital environments may receive different surveys, and the volume of responses will vary by question.
We refer to Saint Luke’s providers as well as independent providers credentialed at a Saint Luke’s facility. Providers make no payments for these referrals and our selections are based on your needs and preferences.
