Hedrick Medical Center Receives Top Rating by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
CHILLICOTHE, Mo. – Hedrick Medical Center is the only critical access hospital in Missouri to receive a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). There are 34 critical access hospitals in Missouri. Only four out of 120 hospitals in Missouri received a 5-star rating, including Saint Luke’s North Hospital–Barry Road in Kansas City. Saint Luke’s South Hospital in Overland Park, Kansas, also received five stars. The rating places Hedrick in the top 10% of all hospitals nationwide.
The Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating summarizes data from existing measures on CMS’s Care Compare website for each hospital to allow users to easily compare hospitals. Patients and caregivers can also compare hospitals’ performance for many common conditions. Hedrick earned a five-star rating based on various measures within five categories: mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, and timely and effective care.
“The CMS ratings program is a highly regarded and widely used review of hospitals across the country,” said Catherine Hamilton, administrator of Hedrick Medical Center. “This five-star rating affirms the exceptional care our team provides day in and day out, and Hedrick Medical Center’s steadfast commitment to serving our patients and our community.”
The national average is three out of five stars. CMS created the Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating Program to help consumers, their families, and caregivers compare hospitals more easily. Hospital ratings can be compared at medicare.gov/care-compare.
