Hip replacement (total hip arthroplasty) is surgery to replace a worn out or damaged hip joint. The surgeon replaces the old joint with an artificial joint (prosthesis). This surgery may be a choice after a hip fracture or for severe pain because of arthritis.

During total knee replacement surgery, your damaged knee joint is replaced with an artificial joint, called a prosthesis. This surgery almost always reduces joint pain and improves your quality of life.

Pressure injuries can involve open wounds or discoloration of skin. They can arise over bony prominences (such as the spine, shoulders, skull, elbow, finger, pelvis, hip, ankle, heel, midfoot or toe) or from an outside surface causing pressure such as a medical device or tube, edge of a table, arm of a chair or toilet seat.

After surgery, the resulting wound needs proper care for healing, minimizing infection risk, and avoiding complications.
