It’s a calm and cozy afternoon in Vern’s Pub at Saint Luke’s Bishop Spencer Place, where residents Carol Owen, 96, and Jean McGreevy Green, 95, are laughing and carrying on like old friends.

Ernst Steffen and Donald Scott, both avid distance runners in their 70s, sought heart care at Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute when shortness of breath sidelined them from their races. Now, the two local marathon runners are grateful to be back on their feet after being diagnosed with aortic stenosis, a common yet often life-threatening heart condition.

The General Cardiology rotation involves the provision of pharmaceutical care for those patients in the Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute (MAHI) 6th floor (North and South) and 3rd floor South. 

Established in 1980 at Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City, The Children’s SPOT (Speech, Physical, and Occupational Therapy) has been serving the community of Kansas City for 40 years with one goal, to help children reach their highest level of functional ability and success in the environments where they live, learn and play. One of the most inspiring stories that have been born from the SPOT belongs to Amelia.

Saint Luke’s offer students nationally accredited allied health programs in areas such as imaging and laboratory science. Additionally, a clinical pastoral program is available that teaches theology students how to serve as chaplains in health care settings.

The summer student scholars programs take place each summer and provides outstanding college students (incoming Juniors and Seniors) with an interest in medicine an opportunity to spend six weeks at Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City participating either in an ongoing research project or six different clinical services for a week at a time.
