And if the outcome wasn’t what I wanted, I’d be okay with that.”

Marty Beasley remembers when doctors told him he may not survive. The 48-year-old Liberty resident was severely ill with COVID-19 in another hospital when the care team told him he should prepare to go to hospice.

The first time Beth Foote had a seizure, she had no idea what was happening. She was in her 30s and had gone her whole childhood and young-adult life without any significant health issues. Established in 1980 at Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City, The Children’s SPOT (Speech, Physical, and Occupational Therapy) has been serving the community of Kansas City for 40 years with one goal, to help children reach their highest level of functional ability and success in the environments where they live, learn and play. One of the most inspiring stories that have been born from the SPOT belongs to Amelia.

Johanne Blackburn dreaded getting a second colonoscopy. She had one in 2002 in Quebec, Canada, where she lived at the time. The doctor performed that colonoscopy in a communal setting with other patients and no sedation.
