Addressing maternal mortality in America
The rate of maternal mortality is on the rise in the United States. While we know how to prevent and treat cardiovascular and coronary disease, the short- and long-term effects of heart disease in pregnant women are still not fully known. Deaths from cardiovascular disease are among the most preventable, and the world-renowned cardiologists at Saint Luke’s are on a mission to help solve this crisis through the work of the Heart Outcomes in Pregnancy Expectations (HOPE) Study for Mom and Baby.

There is HOPE
The HOPE Study will collect and analyze the data necessary to better understand the best care approach and develop risk identification and treatment options to achieve better outcomes for pregnant women with heart conditions. The pilot phase of the study will exclusively focus on Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City in Kansas City, Missouri.
Our vision is to expand the HOPE Study to interested medical providers in the U.S., making it a multi-site, multidisciplinary registry. The eventual goal is to partner with hundreds of cardiologists and OB-GYNs across the country in monitoring thousands of pregnant women with heart disease so that standardized-care protocols can be developed and better outcomes can be achieved for this important at-risk population.
