Diversity & Inclusion

Committed to Equality. Committed to All.

Diversity and inclusion are integral to Saint Luke’s commitment to providing the highest level of care to the patients and communities we serve. By celebrating and embracing each other’s differences, we’re a stronger, more compassionate health system.

Saint Luke’s is proud to have been one of the nation’s first hospitals to make diversity a priority in the early 1990s. Since then, we have continually implemented protocols and standards to ensure our employees are trained to act appropriately in sensitive situations involving cultural, linguistic, spiritual, and ethnic differences.

Our commitment to patients

We treat all patients and their families with dignity and respect for their diverse backgrounds, life experiences, and beliefs.

We do not discriminate for any reason, including but not limited to:

  • Race
  • Age
  • Color
  • Religion
  • Gender
  • Sexual orientation
  • Gender identity/expression
  • National origin
  • Physical or mental disability
  • Veteran status

Saint Luke’s continues to be designated as an Equality Leader by the Human Rights Campaign for our commitment to providing equitable, inclusive care to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) patients. Our dedication in this effort is clear in that all five Saint Luke’s metro hospitals and our three regional hospitals have earned the designation for the past three years.

And Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City is the one of the few Kansas City providers to receive the highest possible rating by PROMO for our welcoming policies for LGBTQ patients.

Our commitment to employees

Saint Luke’s offers an inclusive work environment where differences are valued so each employee can achieve his or her fullest potential.

Drawing on employees’ individual strengths makes Saint Luke’s a cohesive, integrated health system and enables us to better serve our patients and our communities.

Saint Luke’s diversity and inclusion initiatives have been recognized by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, Urban League of Kansas City, and Project Equality. And The Kansas City Business Journal named us among the Best Places to Work.

Our commitment to our business partners

Supplier diversity is a key part of how we purchase goods and services. And it reflects Saint Luke’s commitment to supporting and enhancing the economic growth of the diverse communities we serve.

We’re dedicated to building relationships with minority- and women-owned suppliers to bring new opportunities to these important business partners.
