Surgical Director of Heart Transplant and Mechanical Support Programs, Kansas City, MO

Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute, located at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, is searching for a full-time Surgical Director of Heart Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support. The successful candidate will join an established group of nationally known physicians and surgeons.

Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute at Saint Luke’s Hospital has one of the top heart transplant-MCS programs in the nation. As the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS)-designated Surgical Heart Transplant Director/Primary Surgeon, the candidate will oversee all aspects of the surgical heart transplant program and work in a collaborative manner with the multidisciplinary heart transplant team. This candidate will also oversee the full spectrum of surgical options for advanced heart failure, including temporary and durable ventricular assist devices and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. Participation in other adult cardiac and thoracic surgery is expected. The Surgical Director/Primary Surgeon will be encouraged to participate in clinical research and be actively engaged in UNOS-related activities and meetings, contribute to ISHLT, and serve as the physician representative to the STS/Intermacs. Academic rank and funding are dependent on scholarly activity.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must:

  • Have a MD, DO, or equivalent
  • Hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Missouri
  • Be certified under the American Board of Thoracic Surgery
  • Meet all United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) Requirements for primary heart transplant surgeon
  • Meet VAD requirement for TJC certification
