Care Van

Warning message

Due to the ongoing challenges of COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue Care Van services permanently for all Saint Luke’s North Hospital locations and clinics.

The Saint Luke's North Hospital Care Van program is a free community service for patients who have no other transportation or who cannot operate a vehicle. The Care Van program began in 1991 and provides transportation for hospital inpatients and outpatients throughout the Northland region. Each year, Care Vans transport more than 4,000 patients to and from the two Saint Luke’s North Hospital campuses (Barry Road and Smithville), traveling more than 91,000 miles.

The program serves patients within a 25-mile radius of our Smithville campus in Clay, Clinton, Platte, and Leavenworth counties. The vans provide transportation from patients' residences or nursing home facilities to the Barry Road and Smithville campuses for outpatient services, physician appointments, and lab services.

The vans are also used for inpatients who have off-campus medical appointments, transfers to and from other hospitals, and for patients being discharged from either campus.

The Care Van program is sponsored by the Saint Luke’s North Hospital Auxiliary and Saint Luke’s North Hospital.
