Saint Luke's Cushing Hospital introduces 3D mammography and dedicated breast radiologist to breast care program

January 15, 2016

Women in Leavenworth and surrounding communities now have a better chance for early detection of breast cancer. Saint Luke’s Cushing Hospital has begun offering 3D mammography, the highest level of mammography technology available.

“Early detection is the best defense against breast cancer, and the addition of a 3D mammography system at Saint Luke’s Cushing Hospital offers women greater access to the highest standard of care available and greater diagnostic accuracy,” said Timothy J. Pluard, M.D., Medical Director for Saint Luke’s Cancer Institute.

Most insurance plans cover traditional screening mammograms. Additional fees may apply for the 3D technology in addition to the regular mammogram. It is recommended that patients check with Saint Luke’s Cushing hospital and their insurance company prior to scheduling a mammogram to determine their coverage.

Beginning in January 2016 all breast centers in Saint Luke’s Health System will offer 3D mammography technology, as well as reads and biopsies exclusively performed by dedicated breast radiologists, through the Integrated Breast Care Network.

To schedule a mammogram, women are encouraged to call Saint Luke’s Cushing Hospital at 913-684-1156.
