KMBC: Brain Tumor Breakthrough

A new breakthrough tool is helping surgeons remove fast-growing brain tumors.

Gleolan is a recently FDA-approved optical imaging agent that patients take before surgery. Under special light filters, the tumors become fluorescent, which helps surgeons identify and remove the entire tumor more easily without removing any healthy brain tissue.

KMBC talked to Dr. Scott Turner, a neuro-oncologist at Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City, about one of the first Gleolan procedures performed in Kansas City.
