Women with underlying heart conditions face increased risks during pregnancy. Not only is heart disease the number one killer of women outside of pregnancy – it is the number one killer of women in pregnancy.

This week, we’re talking to Dr. Laura Schmidt, a cardiologist with Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute, and Dr. Karen Florio, a maternal-fetal medicine specialist at Saint Luke’s, about how pregnancy impacts the heart, how heart disease can affect pregnancy, complications that can occur during pregnancy, and how Saint Luke’s is helping women with heart disease have healthy deliveries and babies.
