About 13,000 women in the U.S. are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"All women are at risk for cervical cancer," said Dr. Michelle Rowland, a gynecologic oncologist. "Because of this, we recommend taking steps to prevent this in women, and currently, there are good ways we can prevent this in women including both the HPV vaccine and pap smears."
