Kansas City Business Journal: Saint Luke’s tackles valve treatments

As the U.S. population ages, valvular heart disease has become more prevalent. Simultaneously, advanced and less-invasive treatments are becoming available. Saint Luke’s Health System works to advance treatments for valvular heart disease to make them more effective and less invasive. The American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association recommend that patients who need treatment for valvular heart disease consult with experts at a Heart Valve Center of Excellence. To qualify, centers must meet several criteria, including hosting a multidisciplinary staff, publicly reporting patient mortality and success, and offering all available options for diagnosis and management.

Dr. Borkon and Dr. Skolnick will be co-surgical directors for Saint Luke’s Heart Valve Center of Excellence.
